Marks & Spencer Company Archive, Leeds

Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer opened their Penny Bizarre in Leeds Market in 1884. In 2011, with over 125 years of trading Marks & Spencer went into partnership with the University of Leeds to open up the Marks & Spencer Company Archive, welcoming everyone to access the collection, view the exhibition and spend time in the reading room.

The exhibition is a wonderful celebration of the rich history of Marks & Spencer, a reminder of the cultural importance of this innovative high street shop that we sometimes take for granted.
