Red Rock Cinema

Posted by Jane

22 Nov 2008

Anne, curator of Nothing To See Here, describes the destinations featured on the website..

“Places that still have a certain charm, a bit of je-ne-sais-quoi about them. They’re a little bit special. No Been There, Done That, Bought The T-Shirt kind of places here. They won’t cost much (if anything) to get in and you’ll come away feeling a little bit richer”

I often come away from somewhere thinking “this would be perfect for Nothing to See Here”. This is the first time I have submitted a post. Red Rock Cinema, Reykjavík is certainly a special place and worthy of a mention.

Screenprinting Class

4 Oct 2008

I took a two day screenprinting class at Northern Print in Newcastle. Although slightly disappointed with the final prints it was really nice to be designing something for myself and using ideas that had been stored away for some time.

York’s Pre-fab Discus Bungalows

Posted by Jane

5 Nov 2007

These pre-fab homes in York may soon be up for demolition to make way for modern housing. Built in 1975/76 the 100 buildings are known as ‘Discus Bungalows’. The wide structures are hard to photograph but I wanted to capture the unusual buildings before they are gone. I think they are lovely and particularly like the individual colours and open communal gardens.

Portuguese Tiles

Posted by Jane

1 Oct 2007

I’ve just got back from working in Portugal. There wasn’t much time for sightseeing but, where I could, I photographed the tiles (Azulejo) that adorn the exteriors of many buildings. Azulejo was introduced to Portugal, via Spain, by the Moors in the 15th century. This tradition has continued and I was pleased to find modern tiles around the area of Tavira in the Algarve.

Abandoned Paper Mill

14 Sep 2007

The paper mill looked as though it hadn’t been touched since the last bell went. I had never appreciated how much work went into making paper, this was a huge operation. I really enjoyed the areas that gave you a glimpse of the people that worked there such as offices, lockers, mess rooms and canteens.
