Tibor Reich exhibition at The Whitworth, Manchester
I was unaware of Tibor Reich (1916-1996) before this exhibition at the wonderful Whitworth in Manchester. It was the video at the end of this post that convinced me to visit, I was interested in his artistic and experimental approach to design and especially the use of photography.
Born in Budapest and studied in Vienna, Tibor Reich left central Europe during the rise of Nazism and moved to England, enrolling at Leeds University, a leading centre for textile research. He eventually set up Tibor Ltd in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Tibor combined his love of nature, modernism, Hungarian folk art and photography to produce textiles, carpets, furniture, glass and tiles. He was prolific, creative and a great experimenter.
